Where did the week go?

Wow!  Can’t  believe how fast this week went.  Lots going on  from being crazy busy at work,  chopping my hair off (pictures to come),  stocking up on Project Life goodies,  dinners with the neighbors.  I have started a journal to write down  what’s been going on in our life.  It’s a lot of work but definitely worth it.  I am just hoping to find time to scrap soon.  Hopefully tomorrow after work and the car show my husband is participating in.  🙂

Here are a few more pictures from this week…

Summer Vacation!!!

Today was the last day of school for the kiddos! It is a love/hate situation for me…I love not having to be up early when I don’t work in the morning or after working an overnight BUT I am not looking forward to the kids fighting. They had a half day today and we went out bowling after but after that the arguing started already! YUCK! I seriously need to come up with some good punishments this summer! LOL!

We have lots planned- mostly little things around our area but we are excited. My Girl Scouts are planning on going through the summer. They want to do a book club which I think is cool. It will be a fun filled summer for sure! 🙂

Jackie and I made up a reading log today for the books that we are reading this summer. We are participating in several summer reading challenges. Borders and B&N both have a program for kids where they get a free book after reading so many. She is definitely excited about that…Ben not so much.

Speaking of reading…I have been reading as usual! Finished The Professor by Charlotte Bronte. Good book, seemed to take me forever to get through.

I purchased a 4 book set off Amazon called The Tea Series by Sheila Horgan. I have read the first two Hot Tea and Sweet Tea. I really like these ones. I just started the third book Iced Tea. Good books, funny but the main character sometimes rambles on a little too much. But even so I am still really  enjoying them!

Amazon has been having a ton of new books on the freebie list! Been picking those up. I definitely have tons to read this summer!!!

Off to read a bit before I head to bed. 🙂

It’s Friday!!!

I cannot believe how fast this week has gone by. It seems like I have either been at work or I am catching up on sleep!!! I can’t wait to have 2 days off in a row this weekend! I really have lost track of time…I keep saying I can’t believe it is Easter on Sunday even though it is super late this year. I have SO much stuff still do do…get stuff for baskets, take the kiddos to see the Bunny, dye our eggs, decide what we are taking to DH’s family dinner, finish cleaning the house because my mom is stopping over to bring the kiddos their baskets….the list goes on. I have to work the closing shift at work tonight…thank goodness there is another manager closing with me because we think it is gonna be a busy one! Last night we were slammed and almost doubled out budget for the day. It was awesome!!!

So here are some pictures to sum up this week since I wasn’t on here as much as I would like to have been…

Last Friday, the girl took a cake decorating class at my work. This lovely, frosting loaded cake was her creation after playing with the different tips. She was making a smiley face. LOL! Saturday was my friend. Melissa’s birthday and Jackie wanted to decorate a cake for her…the only problem is with the cake I made…I don’t like making white cakes and that was the mix we had. While she was decorating, the side fell off and she filled it with some icing. Poor thing was so upset about it. I told her next time we will make a chocolate cake!

This is Lizzy, Jackie’s gecko. I went into her room to tuck her in on Sunday and saw the gecko climbing the log thing in the aquarium to get to the crickets who were huddled at the top. I looked in and she looked around the log at me…so I ran to get the camera!

Monday brought us snow…again! I hope this was the last of it. Thankfully it was melted by the end of the day!

Here is a layout I did for the crop at Scrapadilly…it was for their color challenge! I am hoping to scrap some more when I get home from work tonight. 🙂

On Wednesday, Melissa came over to watch a movie and we worked on our recipes for the recipe club I have going on at work. 🙂 Found these cute cards in the Target dollar bin awhile back.

Wednesday night I picked up some crafty stuff to make spring/Easter decorations… I saw this cute Easter Egg Bouquet and wanted to make it. Mine is a little different…not so full and I still want to add a bow or tulle or something around it.

And the last picture for today is a fabric selection for a pennant banner that I want to make this weekend. I still need to pick up some solids but I am excited about making this project. 🙂

Have a great Friday!

Can’t Sleep…

and I know why…I was supposed to work an overnighter today but I got a call that the store is without power. I couldn’t be happier for having the night off but since I had planned to go in, I started drinking coffee later in the day and viola…I am WIDE awake at 1am!!! I volunteered to go in after I take the kiddos to school but now seriously, I am not sure how I will feel in the morning.

So after cleaning the boy’s room up (or almost done cleaning it), I sit here playing online. Found some really great stuff too!!!

I found this awesome blog…The Toy Society and LOVE the concept here. The girl was still awake when I was looking at the blog and after explaining it to her she wants to do this!!!

Here is a little description from their blog – The Toy Society spreads love throughout the streets of the world. Nothing to it really just a bunch of handmade toys looking for a nice home. What started as a small street art project in Australia is slowly spreading around the world. Should you come across a member of The Toy Society on your travels collect them up and take them home with you! But don’t forget to let us know about it here.

Another find tonight was a lapbook. So from what I have been reading these are big with homeschoolers. I am excited to make these with the kids. The possibilities are endless…we participate in the summer reading program at school and we can make these on the books we read. We have a garden each year…we can chart the stuff we grow, we can put stuff we learn about the plants life cycle, do experiments, etc. SO VERY EXCITING!!! I need to go buy some file folders for this project!!!

And the last thing I will share this morning…Unplug Your Kids. Renee over at Scrapadilly is doing the Unplug Project this week. I started reading up on it and it is a great concept! I really can’t guarantee that as a family we can do this because my hubby often has to check work emails and such each evening. Plus he and the neighbor have an online business that often needs tending too. BUT I really would like to start doing the themed projects with the kids. They post a theme and you are supposed to do an activity related to that theme. VERY COOL! I honestly want to start  doing something like this once a week with some of the past themes. I think it will be good for the kids to watch less tv/less time playing wii and it will create awesome family time!!!

So I guess that my insomnia has brought good things my way. I am excited to create and get the kids creating with these awesome ideas. Check back to see the stuff we create!!!

What a weekend!

It hasn’t been the most exciting weekend but it has been somewhat busy here. It was nice not having to work but I miss getting out of the house too. Lots to post about today (since I missed yesterday).

On Friday my mom called to tell me she was up at Joann’s and that they had a hiring sign up. I had worked there for a year a couple of years back so she thought it would be something that I would be interested in. Of course she was right – so while waiting to pick the kids up from school I called the manager. It was a pleasant chat – she was excited to hear from me and said that she has someone leaving and needed to find a replacement for her. She asked me to come up to the store this weekend to fill out an application and ask to speak with her. So yesterday I did just that! The smile on the managers face was great – she said it was perfect timing for her! She knows I am a hard worker – I know the policies there and other than learning their new computer system I know how things run there. She said I will be getting a call by either her or the schaeduling manager to get things going. YAY! I may not have to work for a few weeks until this gal leaves but I am fine with that. Just glad to have a job that I am gonna love again!!!

Yesterday I also made a trip to the fruit market – got lots of healthy stuff and then came home to chop it all up. Easy access at snack times!!! We really plan on eating healthier this year. We rarely eat fast food but I know there are changes that can be made. One thing that I have been wanting was a rice/veggie steamer…found one on sale at Target!!! Used it for a delicious/healthy dinner last night and I have to say I am in love!!! I am going to use it all the time!!!

Today Ken said goodbye to his 1952 Buick Roadmaster and hello to the 1923 Bucket T that he swapped. The guy trailered it here this morning. Ken is totally excited about it because he wants to transform it into a “Rat Rod”. After breakfast he went back out to the garage and started take it apart for his new project.

Here is the Buick…

Have a wonderful Sunday!!!

Our first time Geocaching!!!

Ken and I have talked about geocaching for about a year now…we talked about starting when we go up to Mackinac Island next month but a few weeks back he came home one day and said next weekend we are going geocaching! Alright, sounds like fun!!! So I joined the geocaching site and the Michigan Geocachers site too and started investigating. I picked 5 caches and we went out Sunday looking for them!!!

The first one we went to we didn’t finish looking for it because some idiot decided to do their business near the cache and didn’t even bother to pick up the napkins they used…talk about gross!!!

We went to the 2nd one – which was our first find! The kids were super excited and then we went onto our next one. It was a great find and then we looked in the notes and it said there was another one near by so Ken looked up online (on his phone) and we wrote the clues down and the coordinates. This one was a 3 part one and that was probably my favorite of the day…we saw 4 deer running around.

After the 3rd one we headed to lunch – it was fun talking about our afternoon out and then we decided to look for a 4th one that was on the way home. That one was super easy but a tad disappointing because there was no long inside and trash on the inside…BUMMER!!!

It was great fun and we are talking about going out to find a few tonight too!!! YAY! Here is a slide show that I put together from Sunday!!!

Bad Blogger strikes again!!!

I really thought that being home this summer would get me to blog a lot but it just hasn’t but I need to get better than one ever month or month & 1/2!!!

Lots has been going on here lately. We have started some new fun family activities… 4 wheeling in the Jeep and geocaching! Fun stuff!!! More opportunities to take photos – like I don’t take enough as it is. LOL! I will be posting some slide shows today of some of the fun stuff we have done!!!

Hope everyone is have a fun & safe summer!!!
